It seems to be quite time-consuming and tedious since you must create numerous attributes, link them to this or that attribute set and ascribe suitable attribute set to definite product listing.
Store Manager for Magento, being all about efficiency and optimization, makes attribute and product handling more convenient. Product attributes and sets are being managed in corresponding section of the application under Store tab of the main menu. Everything here is arranged within one window: attribute sets, groups and attributes themselves. You do not need to switch between windows and perform abundance of manipulations.
Attribute set section comes first in this window. If you haven't created any set, here you will see default attribute set only. You can alter this attribute set or use it for creating other ones.
So, you are creating new attribute set, that will include custom attributes beside system ones. What settings should be designated?
1.Attribute Code - this is required field, where you have to input the name that will be used to identify the attribute. It will not be displayed at the storefront. This is so-called technical value used internally by Magento and should be unique correspondingly.
2.Scope - the field is responsible for attribute extend level. There are store view, website, global options available. For example, you set “website” scope for attribute A. It means value of this Magento attribute for specific product can vary in different websites, although it will remain the same for store views, this website homes.
3.Catalog Input Type for Store Owners - input type determines the method of attribute value input when it comes to product adding or editing. By default this field is set to Text Field but there are other types, you can choose between, namely text area, date, yes/no, multiple select, dropdown, price, media gallery.
4.Default value - if you input the value in this field, this attribute will automatically acquire this value when you create new product. This option is disabled for Multiselect and Dropdown input types.
5.Unique Value - by default the field is set to No. If you want each value of this product to be unique, select Yes in this field.
6.Values Required - if you want to make this attribute required, designate Yes in the field. It means, you will be unable to add the product if no values is provided for this attribute.
7.Input Validation for Store Owner - select attribute validation type if needed.
8.Apply to - if you want to limit types of products, this attribute can be assigned to, checkboxes for applicable ones.
Here you can designate how the attribute will act at the storefront. You have the possibility to make it searchable, comparable, specify how it will be used in layered navigation, price rules, sorting.
Set label for current attribute, as it will be displayed on shop frontend.
In case attribute input type is Multiselect or Dropdown, you will get one more tab in attribute edit form, where attribute options should be added.
Necessary attributes being created, attach them to appropriate attribute set. Afterwards go to Store > Categories to add new product listing. As it has been already indicated, when creating a product, you should select suitable attribute set, so it will acquire specific collection of attributes.
Creating Magento Configurable Product
Having Magento-powered store, you will definitely make use of configurable products. These are complex entities and you need to follow some rules to successfully configure them. Configurable product won’t function properly until the attribute set, configurable product belongs to, contains configurable attribute.
Magento configurable attribute is the attribute on the basis of which product variations will be created. As for example, if a product varies in colours, color, correspondingly is a configurable attribute, if it comes in different sizes, the attribute set should possess “size” attribute. When creating configurable attributes, you should consider their properties - attribute Scope should be set to Global, Input Type must acquire Dropdown value. Configurable attributes must have options, on the basis of which product selections will be created.
Is It Possible to Change Magento Attribute Set If the Product Has Been Already Created?
Magento admin does not allow to change the attribute set for merchandise you have added previously. You can only add or delete attributes within the attribute set.
